Origami Jewellery! Liz Hamman launches her unique jewellery on makers-online.co.uk
Posted by makers-online on February 4th, 2010Email: david@makers-online.com
Origami is a form of visual sculpture defined by the folding and creasing of paper, the goal of Origami is to create a representation of an object of art and the artist Liz Hamman has achieved this with her stunning new range of Origami jewellery.
The Japanese word origami is a compound of two smaller Japanese words Ori meaning “folding” and Gami meaning “paper” the art of Origami has been taught and practised for centuries and now Liz has brought this skill to the art of jewellery making.
Liz is a mixed media artist and as been designing and making since completing her fine art studies in 2007, her work uses old books, maps, comics in fact any paper product that takes her fancy.
All her pieces are handmade were she uses various methods such has folding, creasing, weaving or stacking to achieve her aims. All the jewellery has been finished with water based lacquer which makes it surprisingly durable. We wouldn’t however advise wearing it in the bath or while swimming or in the case of a bracelet, doing the washing up.
Liz says that a book can become a treasured part of some ones life and she hopes her Origami jewellery will to.
